How to calculate a tip
To work out a tip, multiply your bill amount by the tip percentage, then divide by 100. For a 15% tip on a bill of 1,000, that's 1,000 × 15 ÷ 100 = 150. Add that to your bill for the total, and divide by the number of people if you're splitting.
What percentage should you tip?
There's no fixed rule — tipping customs vary widely by country and setting. As a rough guide: 10% is common for casual dining, 15% for standard table service, and 18-20% for excellent service or upscale restaurants. In Pakistan and India, a service charge is sometimes already included in the bill — check before adding an extra tip on top.
Splitting the bill fairly
This calculator divides the total (bill + tip) evenly across everyone. If your group had very different orders, it's often fairer to calculate each person's share of the bill first, then apply the tip percentage to their individual portion.
